International courses: two Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP) offered by the PIONEER Alliance

In April and May, Université Gustave Eiffel is taking part in two Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP). Blended Intensive Programmes are a new opportunity offered by the Eramsus+ programme. These are unique courses, combining online teaching with a short period (a week minimum) of physical mobility abroad. BIPs are open to students, doctoral students, lecturers and BIATSS staff. Université Gustave Eiffel, as a member of the PIONEER Alliance, participates in several of these BIPs. PIONEER is an alliance of European universities and was initiated by Université Gustave Eiffel.

“Service Design and Marketing Innovation” BIP

The Service Design and Marketing Innovation BIP was developed by Université Gustave Eiffel, Lisbon University Institute (ISCTE-IUL, Portugal), University of Applied Sciences Cologne (TH Köln, Germany) and Laurea University of Applied Sciences (LAUREA, Finland). From 16th April to 17th May, TH Köln welcomes students from several of these universities for the Spring 2024 session, including a week of physical mobility in Cologne from 13th to 17th May.

This BIP was first tested at LAUREA University of Applied Sciences (Finland) in June 2022 with the Marketing and Services Management Master's degree from IAE Paris-Est. The experiment then continued at Université Gustave Eiffel in November 2023.

The aim of the Service Design and Marketing Innovation BIP is to get students from partner universities to work in multicultural teams on innovative design projects. The projects, proposed in partnership with companies or large groups, enable students to acquire a wide range of knowledge, methods and approaches to service design. The BIP also fosters the development of professional management skills and team leadership in an intercultural context. It is also an opportunity to strengthen the network and relationships between the partner institutions and to create teaching and research opportunities.

It is held twice a year, once in Autumn and once in Spring. The next session of this programme is scheduled for November 2024, with a mobility at ISCTE - IUL in Lisbon (Portugal).

"Technologies for Businesses" BIP

A second BIP, entitled "Technologies for Businesses", runs simultaneously from 5th February to 26th April. It ends with a mobility trip to LAUREA University (Finland). Four institutions are involved in this programme: Université Gustave Eiffel, Tomas Bata University in Zlin (Czech Republic), ISCTE - IUL (Portugal) and LAUREA University (Finland).

This programme focuses on the links between technological issues and the dynamic landscape of service companies. It aims to:

  • Develop students' knowledge of technology in the context of service design and development.
  • Enable students to gain practical experience in developing innovative service.
  • Better understand the dynamics of technology platforms and digital tools.
  • Analyse and reflect on intercultural collaboration and learning in an international context.

The first edition is taking place in Spring 2024. This will be followed by one in Spring 2025 hosted by ISCTE - IUL (Portugal) and one in Spring 2026 at Tomas Bata University (Czech Republic).

About the BIP

BIPs (Blended Intensive Programmes) are mobility programmes offered by the Erasmus+ programme. These programmes encourage the development of transnational and transdisciplinary study programmes, as well as innovative teaching and learning methods. They are short-term European exchanges in a hybrid format, combining online courses and physical mobility. This new scheme does not only enable students to undertake international mobility, but also to internationalise their studies through more flexible and shorter mobility.

As such, Université Gustave Eiffel, together with the other member universities of the PIONEER Alliance, is involved in the creation and implementation of several BIPs.
